Religious Education

During 2015-16 the Parish is offering different options (outlined below) for the religious education of our children.

1. The regular Sunday Morning Program: Classes are conducted each Sunday after the 10:00am Mass. Children assemble in the Parish Hall to meet their teacher and proceed to their class. Instruction is completed by 12 noon. Please register as soon as possible. Registration forms can be found on the table in Church, on the website and at the Parish Office. Please bring your completed form to the Parish Office so that we can plan classes for the year and assign teachers.

2. An alternate to the Sunday program will be provided by Sacred Hearts - St. Stephen Parish in Cobble Hill on Wednesday afternoons at 3:45pm. Children from Assumption Parish taking the Wednesday classes will make their Sacraments at Assumption. You can enroll in one program or the other but these programs are not interchangeable. Please call or email the Parish Office to reserve a spot in the Wednesday program, if you are going to pursue this option. (718-625-1161 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 3. An experimental Family-Based Religious Education pilot program, which will require parents, who choose this option, to participate in a two-hour monthly meeting over and above what is required of the weekly religious education program. If you would like further information on this program, please email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to obtain more details. This program will involve the entire family in the education of their children and will focus all who join on the Sunday Mass readings and the liturgical cycles of the Church year.

The Diocese of Brooklyn requires children making First Holy Communion to have a minimum of two years of instruction before receiving Communion. A second requirement is that children may not miss more than two classes (other than for illness or family emergency) to complete their preparation.

Please consider assisting in the Faith Formation of the wonderful children of our Parish by volunteering to be a teacher!  We will assist you and journey with you as you conduct your weekly instructions. Monitors and teacher assistants would also be most welcome.  Bless our wonderful children with your direction and encouragement.  Please contact Mary in the Parish Office (718-625-1161 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
